Project Leverage is a partnership between the University of California, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, San Diego State University, and the University of Texas San Antonio to provide professional development to middle and high school STEM teachers working with emergent bilingual learners (EBLs), helping teachers learn new methods as well as complete all requirements to add a bilingual authorization to their teaching credentials.
We are passionate about providing teachers with PD that is asset-based and focused on improving EBLs’ opportunities to learn by leveraging the literacy involved in “doing” STEM. Bilingualism and content area literacy coursework coupled with classroom-embedded coaching sessions will create the change needed for participating teachers to enact proven instructional practices that will support students’ deep learning in STEM fields while also developing academic language and literacy.
